about

Kylie Jane Slattery, born in 1969, is an influential contemporary artist who openly embraces and explores her neurodivergent identity through her visually captivating art. Slattery's journey into the art world was born out of a deep need for self-expression and understanding, a journey that she navigates and interprets with her nuanced creativity.

Diagnosed with autism and ADHD at the age of 52, her experience with neurodivergence has become the cornerstone of her artistic voice. As she wrestled with the complexities and often unchartered terrain of her condition, art offered her a sanctuary, a language through which she could voice her feelings, thoughts, and experiences. From a young age, Slattery used her art to navigate the world, serving as a catalyst for her personal growth and unique understanding of the world around her.

Working primarily with acrylics, chalk and mixed media, her canvas vibrates with a rich tapestry of colours and textures. Despite the challenges and complexities she has faced, Slattery has never viewed her autism as a barrier to her success. Instead, she sees it as a gift - an inherent part of her identity that offers her a unique perspective on the world, a perspective that informs her art in powerful and moving ways.

Slattery is a firm believer in the importance of accessibility in art. She is passionate about creating a space where art is not only appreciated but also understood, especially by individuals who, like her, are neurodivergent. She is committed to opening dialogues about neurodiversity and advocating for greater inclusivity in the art world and beyond.
